We offer services in:
Accountability Management
Accountabilities are often vaguely defined, laying poor foundations for performance management and the provision of leadership in continuous improvement. RTB has considerable experience in developing robust and measurable role (or position) descriptions that clearly formalise the expectations (or performance targets) for outputs and/or goals. Our value here lies in the design of appropriate key performance indicators (KPI’s) that directly align to the business goals in a quantifiable manner. We specialise in this ‘operationalising’ or cascading of KPI’s for staff at all levels of an organization.
We feel strongly that clarity in this area facilitates ownership of a role and the motivation to perform. Done comprehensively within the business, it also reduces double-handling and “passing the buck”.
CASE STUDY – Accountability Management
The Systems Planning Branch of Brisbane Water commissioned RTB to refresh the accountabilities of its management team, to ensure they were holistic and aligned to/cascaded from the organisation’s goals.
Skills and Career Development
Too often, organizations foster the pursuit of knowledge and skill excellence at the expense of competency enhancement. One of the key benefits brought to businesses by a competency-based skills and career program is the positive effect on staff longevity and productivity.
RTB has developed a Competency-Based Framework that provides a clear methodology on how to understand and define the business requirements (taking into account specific location and site conditions); the unique technical, leadership and management proficiencies of each role (the units of competency required for successful completion of the role within the business); and the qualifications and knowledge that are essential for those roles (academic or vocational achievements required).
We have systemized our framework/methodology so that the information can be integrated into resource management (workforce planning) and other business processes, such as output budgeting and QA.
CASE STUDY – Skills and career development
RTB was commissioned to assist in the establishment of a Queensland- wide, Water Training Centre of Excellence, to improve the competency of all water staff, from engineers to labourers.
Utilisation of Human Resources
Given that approximately one third of our average day is taken up by work and that we all have strengths and weaknesses, it makes sense to ensure that we are in roles that utilize our talents well. However, too often we see businesses poorly utilising human resources, by bad placement or under- or over- utilisation of staff.
Some businesses are locked into the paradigm of a quick return and thus their staff members are seen merely as machines –expected to do the same thing, at the same pace, throughout the day. Other businesses seem to have forgotten the meaning of and satisfaction gained from performing value work.
At RTB we take great care to ensure that businesses are utilizing their staff appropriately to meet both short -and long- term goals, for all concerned. We ensure optimum utilization occurs by applying both mathematical and psychology rigor to our analyses and designs of new work arrangements.
CASE STUDY – Utilisation of Human Resources
RTB was hired to assist in the design of new rosters (including start and finish times) for operator and maintenance staff servicing water and wastewater plants across Brisbane.
